Themes emerging from parent comments

Thank you for all your helpful comments. School leaders and Governors do take them in to account when we are planning for the future of our school. We were heartened by the number of positive comments about St George’s, particularly after all the changes during the past 18 months.

It was lovely to see that parents recognise the hard work done by the school to secure rapid improvements, particularly around the curriculum. Parents told us that they found St George’s to be a friendly and welcoming place and one where their children felt happy and safe.

Parents were keen to tell us that communication between school and parents is good, and leadership is effective. You also said that teaching is good and children are making good progress.

Positive comments really help staff to keep motivated and doing their best for your children, so thank you.

In terms of what we might do to make the school even better we had the usual division between a minority of parents who think there should be less homework and another minority who think there should be more. We continue to strive to improve our homework provision and in response to parent views, we have just set up Oxford Owls, an engaging and motivating on-line reading resource for children and their parents.

Some parents suggested reviewing the range of school trips (do take a look at our curriculum map on the school website for current provision as this is an area of continuing improvement). This is something we would like to look at further, including making the most of our local area, including the theatres and galleries.

There were some helpful suggestions around widening the range of after school clubs. As a result we will review our usual clubs next term.

Many of your comments encouraged us to keep going with our plan of improvements. We don’t pretend to be perfect so if there are things that you think we could do to improve, do pop in to meet us and let us know. We are trying our hardest to be a really good school.

Best wishes
Mrs Rebecca Harris, Executive Headteacher and Ms Petra Slater, Head of School
